Go back

This year it was the 9:th expedition for OHØ and it started with a traditional smörgåsbord on the ferry.

Smörgårdsbord on the Åland-ferry. From left SMØEEH, SMØIHR, SMØIEA, SMØHPL and SM5HJZ all enjoying finnish beer and danish snaps. Everyone eager to get to Aland and work some radio.

On Thursday at 9 am the ferry took us to OHØ.

This summer was one of the coldest since a very long time. The OHØ-crew is freezing  on the deck of the ferry.
After one hours ride by car we finally get to our cottage on the northern part of the Åland Islands. Then it's time to unpack.

This year SM5AJV had more things than ever with him. In total approximately 1000 kg was brought to OH0 this year.

Highlights

Every year we try to do something new. New for this year was:
50 MHz operation enabled by SM5HJZ. This was very fun and we will come back with 6m again next year.

SMØEEH, Erik, demonstrated his remote station. Erik can remote control his IC-73+antenna from his GSM-cellular. This was used during the expedition to what difference the condx was between Erik's home-QTH and OHØ.

SMØIHR demonstrated his new FT1000MP. An excellent radio. Even tough we had some "automatic reset" problems. Some times the radio just made a reset and it took a couple of seconds to "reboot" the radio and trying to remember the pile up frequency. The Yaesu agent did replace the radio for Anders when he got back.

SM5AJV brought a digital camera for documentation.

Other highlights was:
Good condx!!! Working Japan on 28 MHz. We also noticed it was easier to get a decent rate, even on SSB. Condx is improving!

Working ZL as first QSO when trying the wire vertical for 40 meter band.

Lot's of goooood fooood and wine! This is a radio social event with goood friends.
